Waterborn Paddleboarding Activity Centre in the heart of South Hams

Join us at our new paddleboarding activity centre right on the edge of the estuary in Kingsbridge in the Quay Carpark. Since 2011 Waterborn had been running from the Crabshell Inn but are now situated at our new premises with ample parking and easier access to the water. We look forward to seeing you on the water!

Our team

We have a team of highly professional, enthusiastic paddleboard instructors, coaches and SUP tour guides who are passionate about paddleboarding. We are all BSUPA accredited instructors, safety trained and first aid qualified.

As well as qualified SUP instructors, many of our instructors compete on the national and international race circuit. Waterborn has won the UK Club Championships three times and are currently the trophy holders!

Our SUP lesson methods

Every paddleboard lesson is structured to a tried and tested method and one that we know will get you up on your board and paddling with confidence. However, experience has taught us that no two people progress in the same way or at the same speed.

That’s why we try to tailor our sessions to suit your needs. If you want to go a bit slower, that fine. If you’re super confident we’ll get you doing more advanced techniques – it’s all about giving you very best SUP experience.

Typically on our Ready2Ride paddleboard lesson, you’ll learn about: weather, water environment, board and paddle, paddling techniques, stance, board trim and turning, safety, self-rescue and distress signals plus where you can take your paddling next.

We also hold a full AALA (Adventure Activities Licensing Auhtority) licence and 5 million public liability insurance to cater for school groups.

Our SUP equipment

As with everything we do, we want to bring you the best possible experience every time you paddleboard with us. That means using only the best equipment on the market. That’s why we use Red Paddle Co. board and paddles.

Red Paddle Co. boards are extremely rigid for an inflatable board and definitely the most durable. We aim to renew all our boards each season and this year we are delighted to announce that we have new Red Paddle Co. touring boards. We also use carbon composite paddles that are lighter than standard aluminium paddles that most schools use.

We are also extremely proud to be part of the Red Paddle Co. Learn 2 Paddleboard programme as a ‘Centre of Excellence’ – the only one in the UK!

We have a great range of GUL wetsuits and wetsuit boots should you wish to use them. We also provide you with a buoyancy aid and leash so that you are always attached to your board.

Our environmental policy

We live in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and are blessed with some of the most stunning SUP waters in Europe. The South Hams coast and estuaries that we navigate are also extremely fragile ecosystems and we are very conscious that as water users we must do our bit to preserve and protect the environment we live and work in.

We do our best to avoid plastic pollution and are a governing member of the ‘Plastic Free Kingsbridge’ initiative, which works alongside Surfers Against Sewage. We also carry out regular ‘Paddle and Pick’ SUP events that give us the opportunity to help keep our waterways in pristine condition by collecting any rubbish we find on our journey.
